01287 631132Guisborough Forest & Walkway (LNR) extends for 2.5 miles along the disused Guisborough Branch Railway where it forms a gateway to Guisborough Forest and the North York Moors National Park. The site is managed to create a mosaic of habitats to increase its wildlife diversity and is comprised of mixed tree species, hedgerows, scrub, and rough grassland with an interesting and varied range of wildflowers. A wetland corridor of 15 interconnected ponds and marshland provides an important habitat for wildfowl and amphibians. The visitor centre has a shop and exhibition room where visitors can obtain information about the many activities and events on offer throughout the year. For the more active visitor, cycle trails, walking routes, bridleways, a trim trail and orienteering trails start at the site before extending into the forest. Young visitors can enjoy the play area or pond dipping before enjoying a picnic at one of the many picnic areas or BBQ site. The Sculpture Trail is great for less active visitors following a route of chainsaw carvings into the forest. An amphitheatre provides a great base for school activities and events. A wide-ranging Education programme includes numerous team building and environmental education activities. The Friends of Guisborough Forest & Walkway are actively involved in running the site, carrying out regular conservation tasks and running events including the annual Guisborough Forest Festival. Their fund-raising has resulted in many improvements, adding more to an already attractive visitor experience.
