01922650788Palfrey Park is a green oasis which provides much valued recreation space for the local community. The park has recently been transformed through a 5 year restoration and regeneration programme and now boasts a wide range of new and improved facilities and features for the benefit of its many user groups. The success of the restoration scheme and achievement of the Green Flag Award in 2007 is credited to the unprecedented level of community involvement in the management, maintenance, programming and development of the park. The Palfrey Park Friends and Users Association (PPFUA) are an established group who have worked in partnership with Walsall Council since 1996 and along with the many other community partners, they have managed to ensure that the development and programming of the park meets the needs and demands of the local community. The regeneration of the park has been sensitively managed to achieve a balance between the historical significance of the site and the requirements of a 21st Century audience, there truly is something for everyone: from informal recreation enjoying the public art features, to organised health walks; from a concert in the ‘new’ Victorian bandstand to a choice of sports which can be played on the refurbished courts; from a picnic in the refurbished play area, to pond dipping in the conservation area. Walsall Council will continue to work in partnership with PPFUA and others to ensure that the park and its facilities continue to be managed, maintained and developed to a high standard.
