Information about this open space

Finsbury Park is the largest park managed by Haringey Council and offers a peaceful green retreat from its urban built-up surroundings.  The grade II listed Park was officially opened in 1869 and continues to evoke its undoubted value as a ‘People’s Park’.  Today Finsbury Park is looking better than ever, after undergoing a £5m Heritage Lottery Funded restoration and improvement programme. It provides a rich tapestry of landscapes and a variety of facilities now catering for twenty-first century needs.  Many of the Parks original features have been restored to their former glory including the re-landscaping of the American Gardens and Alexander McKenzie’s historical flower gardens, now reflecting much of his original design which was lost for many years.  New facilities now exist including an enclosed, dog-free play area with an exciting water feature - designed by children, for children. A new and improved café building housing public toilets and open all year round and the construction of two Victorian styled seating shelters, offering a place for quiet contemplation or protection from the sun or rain.  Finsbury Park is also very popular for its’ sporting facilities including the Track and Gym open for drop in sessions and organised team sports, the newly improved tennis courts catering for both children and adults and the newly built skatepark.
