Information about this open space

The park dates back to 1901 when Mr James Crossley gave the land to the Town of Ripley. The local council invested in improvements to the park and it was re-opened in 1935, the improvements were a bandstand, formal planting and play equipment for children.  The park is formally laid out around the bandstand, which is situated at the lower end of the park and is supported by 12 impressive mature horse chestnut trees, other features within this small park are a millennium sundial, commemorative rose garden, a play area and well used paddling pool.  The friends group work in partnership with Amber Valley Borough Council and have worked hard to promote the park as a safe and enjoyable place to visit; they have help organise a ‘party in the park’ each year, a free event for the public.  The park is well used by local people and visitors to the area; it is an ideal location for informal recreation close to the town centre. We believe Crossley Park to be a good example of a small formal park and offers an excellent location to visit and enjoy.
