The Outwoods forms a part of the Charnwood Forest area of Particularly Attractive Countryside and is located within the National Forest. Rich in valuable ecological and geological features the Outwoods is also an important site for people, attracting thousands of visitors each year. The Outwoods is very much a people’s park, with hundreds of hours of volunteer time being given each year by individuals and staff from local and national companies involved in environmental team building events. As well as an ecological and recreational resource the Outwoods also offers educational opportunities. Students from local colleges and from Loughborough University utilise the Outwoods for their studies and interpretation boards give information on wildlife and woodland management. For many people their interest in the Outwoods is emotional, charged with childhood memories and fond associations. The Outwoods is a site for families, with successive generations of children exploring its rich and varied habitats and develop their own lasting relationships with this very special place.
