01202261334Upton Country Park is a popular park with local people and visitors. The Park surrounds the Grade II* listed Upton House and has strong historical links with the development of the town of Poole. The Park also lies on the edge of Poole Harbour, an internationally important site for nature conservation. The park itself provides features of historic, horticultural and ecological interest within a relatively small area. These features, and the visitor facilities which provide good access for all user groups, are maintained to a high standard. There is a high level of community involvement with a dedicated volunteer group (the Friends of Upton Country Park) and schools and other local organisations regularly involved in the running of the Park. A wide range of events takes place in the Park each year. The development and management of the Park has always sought to protect the essential character of the Park whilst encouraging everyone to fully enjoy what the Park has to offer. The Green Flag criteria reflect the approach being taken at the Park and great efforts have been made to reach the necessary standard. It is felt that the qualities of the Park, the efforts made to manage it and the support of the community all merit the award.
