Information about this open space

Stoke Park is Guildford’s largest and best-known park, and is described by local people as “the lungs of Guildford”. It is an extremely diverse and well-used green space that is popular with residents and visitors alike.  The park and its woodland have remained more or less intact since they were laid out as a full park in the 18th century. In those days there was a manor house complete with walled garden and icehouse. Heritage features that still exist today include the walled garden, plus a Ha Ha and 16th century farm buildings; one of which is now used as a function venue.  The park has a great number of facilities catering for people of all ages and abilities, including formal sports pitches, woodland areas, and formal gardens with a boating pond, paddling pool, children’s play area, tennis courts and putting green. There is indoor and outdoor bowls and a very popular skate park.  The main section of the park is open rolling grassland, which due to its vast size, is ideal for major regional events, including the music festival, Guilfest and the Surrey County Agricultural Show.  The Parks and Countryside Service works with many local volunteer and support groups to make Stoke Park the well managed and maintained green open space that it is.
