01902555110Covering 46 acres, and opened in 1881, West Park is Wolverhampton’s premier park and is recognised nationally as one of England’s finest Victorian parks. A short walk from Wolverhampton City Centre, the site is listed with Grade II status on the English Heritage Register of parks and gardens. In recent years the site has also been the subject of an extensive Heritage Lottery Fund restoration aimed at returning it to its former Victorian splendour. West Park has always been noted for its excellent displays of seasonal and carpet bedding, but it also has a reputation for the wide range of facilities on offer to visitors of all ages and interests. The many features of interest are linked by the park’s perimeter path and serpentine walks. A heated Conservatory is located near to the boating lake, complete with its authentic plant collection. The park also boasts a Bandstand, Victorian tearooms, play area and large centre flower beds, overlooked by an ornamental clock tower. Rowing boats are available for hire on the park’s lake during the summer months and the tennis courts are available for use throughout the year. Throughout its history, the park has been used for large outdoor events. The first of which was the ambitious ‘Art & Industrial Exhibition’ which was held in 1902. Nowadays, the park plays host to the annual City Show, Sikh Festival and Bonfire & Fireworks display, as well as brass bands and countless smaller community organised events.
