01477534115Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve is owned by Congleton Borough Council, and managed in partnership with Cheshire County Council Countryside Management Service. The nature reserve occupies 85 acres, comprising woodland, with pond and wetland areas, a lake, remnant lowland heath, and grassland areas. Brereton Heath offers access to the countryside for all. The ‘Brimstone Trail’ offers visitors opportunities to explore the reserves natural habitats. A surfaced section with additional seating caters for visitors with mobility impairment. In addition to informal recreation, Brereton heath also offers opportunities for angling, canoeing, model boat sailing, and cycling. It also acts as a gateway to the wider countryside, in particular the scenic Dane Valley. A visitor centre provides information and displays, toilet facilities, including toilets for disabled. Visits by educational groups are encouraged, as is community involvement. Local conservation volunteer groups are active in helping to improve natural habitats. The Dane Coppice Crafts Group meet regularly, offering life-long learning opportunities, as well as creating environmental sculptures which create added interest for the visitor. Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve is managed to a high standard, providing a safe, quality environment for all. Information is readily accessible, from web site, leaflets, display material and events, as well as from the nature reserves countryside rangers.
