Information about this open space

The area below the famous Leas at Folkestone was created in 1784 when a landslip produced a new strip of land between the beach and the new cliff line. The Lower Leas Coastal Park was opened in 2000 and is approximately 25 hectares in size, split into 3 recreational zones. Beginning at The Leas Lift forecourt the new formal zone comprises pine avenues, formal planting and hard landscaping. The Fun Zone is situated in the centre of the park and in addition to the largest free play area in the south east, this zone contains the Zig Zag Path and the ever popular amphitheatre. The remainder of the Park is the Wild zone where sensitive habitat management ensures that wildlife can enjoy the Park as much as we do! Entertainment is provided every weekend from 1st July in the Amphitheatre - and it’s all free! The annual programme of events at the amphitheatre really does provide something for everyone with theatrical productions, concerts and much, much more! For catering and refreshments, the Mermaid Cafe is situated close to the promenade, below the play area, and there is a mobile catering unit on most performance days at the Amphitheatre. The site is owned and managed by Shepway District Council and is open at all times. For site security and your safety the site is well lit, has CCTV coverage and Wardens patrolling the Park during office hours.
