Information about this open space

Lurgan Park became a public park in 1909 and it’s history dates back to the 1600’s.  It is the second largest public park in Ireland and has been said to be ‘a hidden gem in the middle of a large market town.’ The demesne was once owed by Lord Lurgan and boosts a 59 acre man made lake which now stocks roach, bream, tench and pike.  It attracts up to 2000 people from the local area on a good summer’s day, who all turn out to use the facilities available or watch some local sport.  The majestic Colebrookdale Fountain is a main focal point for any new visitors.  It was erected in the park in the early 1920’s and is one of the only remaining cast iron structures complete with four lamp posts.  Lurgan park is manned 365 days a year and offers an extensive calender of events for everyone to enjoy.
